Bulky Item Collection

For items that are too large to fit into the trash cart, residents may request the free pick up of household bulky goods two times per year.  WM will retrieve up to four large items such as furniture, appliances or up to 20 plastic bags of refuse or bundles of yard waste (less than 50 pounds each) for each request.  Advance notice is required. To schedule a free bulky goods pick up, please contact Waste Management at (714) 558-7761. Additional pick ups are available for a nominal fee.

Note: Due to state environmental laws, we are unable to accept TVs or computer monitors as bulky items. See below

Temporary Bin and Roll-Off Service

Please contact Waste Management at (714) 558-7761 for information on sizes and rates for temp dumpster or bin service.

Disposal of Used Motor Oil

Before you change your oil, contact Waste Management at (714) 558-7761 to request a free oil container and oil filter bag to be delivered to your home.  Once you receive these materials, remove the oil filter from your car and drain it well for at least 24 hours - once it is drained, place it in the plastic bag.  Drain the oil from your car into the plastic container.  Secure it to avoid spillage.  Call Waste Management to schedule a pick up for your next regular refuse collection day - on the pick-up day, please place the container with the oil and the bag with the filter at the curb.  We will pick the items up and leave a clean container and bag to use for your next oil change.

Note: call early Friday for Monday pickup. They can't schedule a pickup Friday afternoon or Saturday.

Christmas Tree Recycling

WM will collect and recycle Christmas trees for the first three weeks following Christmas on your regular collection day. Trees taller than four feet must be cut in half. Please remove all decoration including tinsel, lights, ornaments and tree stands. Place the tree at the curb. Flocked trees will be collected but cannot be recycled.

Household Hazardous Waste and eWaste

Household hazardous waste like old paint and cleaning products can't be discarded in your trash cans. It's bad for the environment and against the law. Car batteries are especially bad for land fills because of the lead they're made with. The same goes for computers, electronic equipment, computer monitors and televisions. There are several solutions for disposal of these items. See below to schedule a pickup at your home.

You can take most items to:

Here's another hazardous waste program you may not be aware of. Waste Management At Your Door will come to your home by appointment and pick up a wide variety of electronics and waste. Here's the list. Their arrangement with the City is that they'll come out up to three times per year per resident.

Please make it worth their while, talk to your neighbors and get your waste together before calling. They'll take car batteries and old cell phones and mercury switches and microwaves, things that don't belong in landfills. No paint or liquids though. They recycle precious metals from electronics too. Got an old 386 PC in your garage? They'll get something out of it. You can call 800-449-7587 or 714 223 3937 email atyourdoor@wm.com or fill out the form on their website. Their appointments are typically two weeks from when you contact them, so plan ahead.

Every year WSNA organizes a Dumster Day in early March where 7 large construction dumpsters are brought to our neighborhood on Saturday morning for your use between 8AM and Noon. It's a great way to get rid of old fencing, concrete, building materials, tree limbs, and stuff that didn't sell at your last garage sale. The timing of DD is usually the weekend after the Spring Santa Ana garage sale weekend. The City mails a flier to every home in Washington-Square and the WSNA membership letter is usually piggybacked with it.
